THE coffers of Westleigh High School are almost £2,000 better off - thanks to pupils selling gnomes away from home.
For a group of pupils travelled to Belgium to market and sell their 'nice little earner' at a trade fair in Brussels.
The youngsters made and painted garden gnomes as part of an in-school business project and gardening enthusiasts at the fair snapped them up quickly, making a profit for school funds of £1,710 despite their stall being in a bad position.
Coalfield Challenge sponsored the trip and organiser Sian Jay commented: "The children have worked extremely hard and I am delighted with their success. The experience of the fair has given pupils an insight into business which will carry them into higher education. They deserve our congratulations."
