A MAN was crushed to death when a rope holding a car he was working on snapped, a Leigh inquest heard.
Bernard Lester, aged 36, had used a tripod, a block and tackle with a rope attached to hoist the car off the ground.
He was working on the car at the side of his home at Cranworth Avenue, Astley when the accident happened.
He suffered severe abdominal injuries and later died in Hope Hospital, Salford.
Mr Lester's wife Pauline said: "He was particularly interested in working with cars."
Working with him at the time was Ian Francis Granger of Oak Street, Tyldesley who was at the back of the car when it crashed down. He lifted it with a jack and pulled Mr Lester from underneath.
A hospital report said death was due to a massive abdominal haemorrhage and the coroner Mr Martin Coppel recorded an accidental death verdict. Next news story
