Cunliffe's big six questions
LEIGH Tory Ed Young will be fighting the General Election under a "No single currency" banner.
"It will be in my manifesto that I could never support a single European currency for Britain," he said.
Holding up a £10 note, he said: "Anyone who does not want to lose the pound sterling can safely vote for me."
His views are at variance with the Government's 'wait and see' policy.
"When I was selected as the prospective candidate last year, I made it clear to the association that I do not support further European integration."
Mr Young, who works for Barclays Bank International, says: "I am in contact with exporters every day. They say a single currency would damage Britain as it would create a protectionist trade zone.
"I've no idea why a Referendum candidate is standing in Leigh. I've made my position clear and I'd have no problem with a referendum on the future of Europe."
