STREET hockey dangers have brought a safe play plea from worried parents.
Roller boots and hockey sticks are an exciting combination but in the heat of a side street scramble traffic dangers are often ignored.
Now parents are hoping the local authority will help set-up a proper play area where youngsters can safely enjoy the thrills of this fast-growing sport.
Geoffrey Dippnall of Haweswater Avenue, Tyldesley, who's son Shaun is a roller-mad six year-old, fears a tragedy is just around the corner.
He said:"I understand there has already been one fatality in another part of the country.
"Nobody wants that to be repeated.
"I think the Council ought to provide facilities at a leisure centre or school where they can enjoy the sport in safety."
Mr Dippnall takes Shaun to a safe set-up at Moorside High School, Swinton which is provided by Salford Council, and hopes Wigan will follow suit.
A Council spokesman said:"If anybody has any observations or recommendations to make on this matter we would be happy to consider them. Please write to our Leisure Services Department at Trencherfield Mill, Wigan, WN3 4EF." Next news story
