POLICE are hunting a cowardly sneak thief who snatched a pension book and £125 in cash from an 82-year-old woman.

The victim was making her way home to Herbert Street, Sutton, from the nearby St Helens Town Ground with her daughter, when the thief struck at about 10pm on Sunday, April 6.

The two women had just turned into Herbert Street from Hoghton Road when the pensioner felt someone grab at her bag and turned to see a man running away. Her daughter gave chase but the man ran back along Hoghton Road and climbed into a waiting car which then drove off.

The women were unable to give a description of the car but described the thief as white, about 6ft tall and in his early 20s with short, brown, curly hair and wore blue jeans and a black, bomber-style jacket.
