THE Bacup Moors Action Group opposes the erection of wind farms on the moors as, like open cast mines which we have successfully opposed two occasions, they are an industrial development and, as such, are alien to a moorland environment.
Against the advantage of the minimal output of pollution-free electricity from wind farms, one has to set disadvantages such as the visual and noise pollution, shadow flicker, interference with TV reception, danger to birds, and their effects on the sale price of nearby housing.
If the target of 10 per cent from renewable energy sources were to be achieved by wind power alone, then we would see a wind farm on every hilltop in Lancashire.
Proposals include wind farms on Darwen Moor, Hogshead Law Hill near Bacup, Moorcock Hill near Hebden Bridge and Sayland Moor near Sowerby Bridge.
A federation has been set up to co-ordinate local opposition to those proposals. Anyone who wishes to support our efforts should contact me on 01706 877521
