A WORLDWIDE search has been launched for a former Blackburn Rovers director who has been missing for a month.

Interpol are looking in four countries following the sudden disappearance of business tycoon and Holocaust survivor Walter Hubert, 65, who was last seen in Frankfurt.

Today, fears were growing for his safety after it was revealed he was only carrying a small amount of medication for a heart condition.

Mr Hubert, a lifelong fan, joined the Rovers' board in 1966 and in 1971 became vice-chairman. He resigned a year later but rejoined in 1974.

He was also chairman of the Rovers' Development Association and president of the Blackburn Cancer Research Committee.

Mr Hubert, a former chief executive of the Tom Martin and Co scrap metal company, Blackburn, was on the final leg of a European work trip last month.

He had flown to London from his home in Israel, where he had moved 10 years ago to head an aluminium reclamation company.

His wife Rebecca said after leaving London he went to the Czech Republic, then Germany.

Mrs Hubert was in America and the couple had planned to meet back home for the Jewish festival of Purim on March 28.

Mr Hubert needs regular medication following a heart by-pass operation and had only a month's supply of tablets with him.

An Interpol spokeswoman said: "We were contacted by our Jerusalem bureau and asked for assistance in finding Mr Hubert.

"A search has been launched in four countries. We have nothing further to report at this stage."

Mr Hubert, who was born in Germany, was the only member of his school class to survive the Holocaust.

His father, Arthur, who also survived a Nazi concentration camp, built up the Blackburn scrap metal company to a £14 million business before it was sold.
