MANCHESTER United winger Ben Thornley has issued a writ against Nicky Marker and Blackburn Rovers, following an injury he sustained in a reserve game between the two clubs three years ago, writes PETER WHITE.
Legal action was mooted some time ago.
But, since then, Thornley has put the injury behind him and recovered sufficiently to challenge for a place in the first team squad at Old Trafford.
Thornley is claiming damages for personal injury and loss.
Rovers have passed the writ onto their insurers and Marker and the club are under instructions not to comment on the matter.
But I understand Rovers are mystified as to why this subject has arisen again after Thornley, who was 22 yesterday, has recovered and is back playing.
The injury happened at Gigg Lane on April 6, 1994, when United beat Rovers 3-0 in a reserve game.
Thornley was stretchered off 10 minutes from the end with a knee injury following a tackle with Marker.
