A PROPOSAL to bulldoze a block of sheltered flats and rehouse its elderly residents is to go ahead.
Anchor Trust is to submit plans for the re-building of Pembroke Court, their retirement scheme in George Street, Darwen.
Steve Wood, Anchor's regional general manager, said: "We wanted to ensure all of our residents were aware and happy with our plans for the new scheme, and we have been carrying out a full consultation.
"It is hoped that the new Pembroke Court, built to three storeys, will have 28 flats and offer residents quality one-bedroom flats, complete with all the amenities demanded by today's discerning older population."
The announcement of the proposals in February caused distress to many residents, who were worried about leaving their familiar surroundings.
If permission is granted, building work is expected to start later this year.
