SECOND-PLACED Saints will be seeking to maintain the pressure on leaders Bradford Bulls when Warrington Wolves come to Knowsley Road on Sunday, kick-off 3pm.

Warrington are experiencing a revival after a disastrous start to the season, which resulted in the resignation of coach John Dorahy, and currently lie in mid-table with three wins from six games.

No fewer than six of their squad hail from the South Sea islands, including prolific try scorer Nigel Vagana and forward George Mann, who spent several seasons at Knowsley Road before joining Leeds.

The Wolves line-up is expected to be: Rudd; Forster, Kohe-Love, Roper, Henare; Vagana, Shelford; Stephens, Hulme, Chambers, Tatupu, Mann, Sculthorpe. Substitutes Davies, Knott, Finau, Derbyshire.

Saints coach Shaun McRae will be checking on the fitness of Paul Newlove and Ian Pickavance, who both sat out the victory against Salford, but Derek McVey looks certain to be missing another week.

The referee is Russell Smith, and Saints' Academy team will play Wakefield in a curtain-raiser kick-off 1pm.

Saints and Haydock RFC will team up on Sunday, in a 10-mile sponsored 'pass-a-thon' in aid of teenage amateur player Luke Bryan, who was seriously injured in match last October. Luke's team-mates will pass a ball from the club's base in Piele Road along an authorised route to Knowsley Road; collecting buckets will be on hand an on arrival at Saints for the match with Warrington. Major sponsorship is welcome while the 'going rate' is £1 a mile of more! Further details from appeal secretary Linda Travis on 01942-276293.

Back-row forward Dean Busby has been placed on the transfer list at £75,000. He joined Saints from Hull two years ago, but has been dogged by injury and unable to command a first-team place.

Forthcoming events in the Gus O'Donnell kidney machine appeal include: Sportsman's Dinner at Stakis Hotel, Friday, April 25. Tickets £17.50 from Jimmy O'Sullivan on 28148. Mike Callaghan Roadshow, Sutton St. Anne's Club, Wednesday, May 14. Tickets £2 from Ann Collins 818708.

Saints centre Alan Hunte heads the try-scoring charts with 14.

'Trip of a Lifetime' raffle tickets, with the main prize being a three-week holiday in Australia and New Zealand for Saints' World Club Challenge games, are on sale at the Superstore price £1. Other prizes include Sky satellite system, Pontin's holiday, autographed match balls and cases of McEwan's lager. Proceeds are in aid of the 'Sign a Saint' campaign. Lifelong Saints' supporter Arthur Copple has died in Stirling, Scotland, at the age of 79. He was a cousin of Saints' director Eric Latham.

The next meeting of the Junior Saints Club will be held at the Black Bull, Knowsley Road, on Monday, May 12, at 6.15pm. Further details from Aunty Freda on 602253.

Saints' ground safety officer Max Woosey has been appointed chairman of the recently formed Rugby League Ground Safety Officers' Association. A retired police superintendent, Mr. Woosey has also been invited to sit on the RFL's Minimum Standards Committee.
