A LANCASHIRE union leader has urged pressure be put on the German government to get a decision on Eurofighter.

Speaking at a conference in Germany for works council representatives, John Deans said the country's commitment was vital to production of the aircraft.

"Both the UK Conservative and Labour parties are already committed in principle, since it is envisaged that more than 15,000 highly skilled jobs will be provided in both the UK and Germany, as well as significant numbers in Spain and Italy," said Mr Deans, works convenor at BAe at Warton.

"Germany's commitment to production investment will help maintain Eurofighter at the leading edge of aerospace development with all that means for skilled employment, technology retention, export potential and balance of payments benefits."

He urged works council representatives at the conference in Bremen, Germany, to do everything in their power to lobby the German government for a decision.
