STERNER methods of dealing with crime have been outlined by Labour's Parliamentary candidate for Leigh, Lawrence Cunliffe.
Curfews, restraining orders and exclusion zones were discussed among new community safety measures he suggested when speaking last Thursday at Atherton's Hag Fold Community Centre.
Mr Cunliffe said he wanted to help deter and combat street crime and neighbourhood problems.
His suggestions included nuisance teams made up of police and locals with a fast track procedure to evict those involved in harassment or intimidation.
He also favours better protection for court witnesses and housing possession orders to get rid of problem makers.
Mr Cunliffe said:"Anti-social behaviour is undermining far too many communities. Families are living in fear from their neighbours whether it is persistent noise, racial harassment, vandalism, drug related crime or even violence."
On Monday, Leigh Conservative candidate Ed Young visited the award-winning Peter Miles Engineering factory in Leigh.
