A PRESTON businessman has pledged to put up the cash to stop talented young footballers being lured away to bigger clubs.
John Oxley has a vision for the youngsters he coaches - he wants Bamber Bridge Under-12s to have their own pitch, changing rooms and training gym in the next two years.
The club has already netted top place in this year's Central Lancashire League, but many of the star players have signed up for Blackburn and Manchester teams next season.
Now John, who runs a paving and construction business, has promised to plough cash back into Bamber Bridge to keep the team at home, and now he's appealing to other companies to rally round.
He needs more financial backing and someone to lease him a plot of land. The children currently use the field at Brownedge St Mary's High School.
John, a former player with Bamber Bridge seniors in the early 80s, said: "The local football committee work hard and do a good job but these youngsters deserve the very best. The players love it here but it's no wonder they go to the bigger teams to play. Bamber Bridge needs its own School of Excellence.
"Good footballers start at an early age. Who knows, we could have a future £5 million player on our hands."
