A COUPLE say their dream home has been destroyed by a building firm who have positioned a giant compound at the bottom of their garden.

Jeff and Judith Gettings spent two years living in a caravan as they built their home and beautiful garden - only for it to be ruined by an eyesore builder's yard.

And despite a pledge by builders Maunders to rearrange the site, which features two portable cabins stacked together, the couple - who spent all their money renovating the derelict cottage on Cravens Avenue, Blackburn, 12 years ago - are still fuming.

Mrs Gettings said: "Up to now we have remained quiet but we can't take it any more. We've got workmen and security guards peering down at us at all hours of the day and it's a nightmare.

"They say they are going to move the top cabin and hide them behind an eight feet tall fence, but that will look like the Great Wall of China. We can't sit in our garden now with that thing towering over us. I won't be happy until it is moved.

But Ronnie Pinder, managing director of Maunders Homes, said the compound will stay where it is on the prestigious Craven Farm site.

He said: "After receiving a complaint from the Gettings we have agreed to lower the cabins and paint everything the same colour. We will also erect a fence to hide it, but unfortunately we will not be able to move the compound because it is in a prime location for us."

Blackburn Council is also investigating complaints from the Gettings that the land level of the new development is so high that it will overshadow their home.
