ACCIDENT and emergency staff are rolling their sleeves up and pulling out all the stops to raise cash for expensive medical books.
So far the team, from Blackburn Royal Infirmary, have raised around £500 to stock up their department's library with up-to-date literature.
But their fund-raising efforts need a boost to continue attracting cash for the medical books - which can cost more than £100 each.
Past events include can-collecting, car boot sales and a sponsored three-legged fancy dress race.
Staff nurse Enid Povey said the main problem was the ever-changing crop of reference material.
She added: "A lot of the books we have are out of date and, with the medical world changing so rapidly, we need up-to-the-minute literature.
"The hospital is now committed to training staff and when nurses and doctors are sent on courses, we would like them to go armed with the best information they could have."
On occasion books have been lost from the library but with volunteers to look after the library the hospital hopes that will not happen in future. However, there are still editions which need replacing.
