ACTION woman Annie Murray is still making a splash at the ripe old age of 84.

For the sprightly supergran likes nothing more than enjoying the thrills and spills of life and over the last decade has taken part in just about every activity going - including abseiling!

Now the octogenarian of St Silas's Road, Blackburn, who also lists horse riding among her hair-raising hobbies, is settling for the 'quiet' life - but for Annie this means weekly archery lessons at Shadsworth Community Centre and therapeutic swimming sessions at Darwen Leisure Centre.

To mark the pensioner's birthday staff presented Annie with a surprise bouquet of flowers and free leisure pass during her weekly swimming session.

Annie said: "It was a great surprise and it was totally unexpected. I love taking part in sporting activities and there is nothing a wouldn't try. My aim now is to do a parachute jump."

Joyce Tattersall, Blackburn Council's recreation officer said: "Annie was 74 when she came to at first. And during the last 10 years she has supported every activity she can. We thought she deserved a little treat for her birthday.

"Annie really is an example to people in their later years and is proof that life doesn't have to stop when they retire - I don't think there's anything she wouldn't try."
