BOSTON UNITED 1

BAMBER BRIDGE 1 AFTER Bamber Bridge's recent shaky form this well earned draw at promotion hopefuls Boston on Saturday (April 19) gave a welcome lift to David May's side as the season edges to its conclusion.

And coming on the back of the midweek win at Runcorn - which gave Brig sweet and swift revenge for last week's 5-0 thrashing - the men of Irongate are in a much safer position than they were seven days ago.

For much of the game Brig looked the more at home, turning in a positive first half display that had United on the ropes.

Ian Vickers forced a vital save only minutes into the match, and Wayne Maddock came close to heading Brig into the lead soon after.

And it was Maddock who made the breakthrough on 25 minutes.

Mark Milligan made space near the Boston penalty area before slotting a perfectly weighted pass through to Maddock who hit a screamer high into the net.

With Boston hoping to improve their slim promotion prospects Brig came under increasing pressure at the back.

And despite showing something of the defensive spirit that helped lift them out of the relegation zone last month, Brig conceded Phil Brown's equalizer with just under half an hour left.

But Bamber Bridge's resilience held firm enough to thwart any further Boston efforts, and an away point at this stage of the season is almost as prized as a win.

Although this latest up turn in Brig's fortunes should confirm their place in the Premier Division, the continuing uncertainty over whether two or three clubs will be relegated looks set to keep everyone anxiously calculating points and goal difference for at least another game or two.
