KORMA along for a quiz and curry night in Preston - but there's strictly no animals allowed!

The gastronomical get-together is organised by Vega, Preston's vegetarian and vegan group, meaning all the grub up for grabs is meat-free.

Just turn-ip and answer a few questions and you could win a bottle of vegan wine. Vega says egg whites and pig bladder are sometimes used to make regular plonk.

The menu comes courtesy of two Asian cooks from Penwortham and features chapatis, samosas, bhajis, tikkas and a range of curries, all free from animal and dairy products. Organiser Anne Woodworth from Howick, Penwortham, Preston first became vegetarian five years ago, following in the footsteps of her 12-year-old daughter Emma.

Anne said: "People should sample the curries. They'd be surprised at the variety and taste available.

"I set up Vega to provide information for local vegetarians and vegans. I felt totally out on my own when I first made the commitment to a meat-free diet."

The evening begins at 8pm this Saturday (April 26) at St Wilfred's Church, Winckley Square. Admission is £5 or £3 for children, but bring your own drinks. Contact Anne to book on 744743.

Vega celebrates its first anniversary in June during National Vegetarian Week with a party in Hoghton.
