BRITONS heading for America were being warned to steer clear of trouble spots as the death toll from race riots reached 21.

Rossendale-based tour operator Airtours said its transatlantic flights would take off as planned, but it would be keeping a close eye on the situation.

However, President George Bush appealed for calm as further violence sparked curfews in Atlanta, Dallas and San Francisco.
