EDUCATION Secretary Kenneth Baker dropped an education bombshell during a visit to East Lancashire.
He announced at a meeting in Nelson and Colne College that he was considering introducing measures enabling parents to send children to the school of their choice.
Mr Baker said he wanted the best schools to benefit and the worst to feel the pinch - and even close if they did not come up to scratch.
