IT was odds on that, after being presented with March Unibond Team of the Month Award, Leigh RMI would turn in one of their worst displays of the season.
Fortunately the promotion-chasers salvaged a point at 1-1 - but that was more to do with Great Harwood Town's lack of adventure than sound defence.
Town had only one scoring opportunity and they took it after RMI had twice failed to clear the danger.
RMI started well but striker Chris Shaw and Steve Shaughnessy failed to direct their headers on target. They went ahead in the 40th minute when stylish midfielder Ian Brady slotted the ball into the area for Dave Ridings, who pushed it past the keeper only to be pulled down. Keith Evans coolly drilled the ball home from the penalty spot.
With nine unbeaten games under their belts, Leigh should have coasted home. But their second half display left manager Steve Waywell in despair.
"We gave them the goal," he said. "We tried to run the ball out and didn't clear it. We were too slow in the second half and were thankful for a point.
"It was a big crowd and we didn't perform. We just couldn't find our own players, we kept giving the ball away."
RMI U10s beat Amblecote with goals from David Leather, Daniel Brett, Phil Allen and an og. MoM was Marc Valentine. If you want to play call Lee Harrison on 01942-877344.
RMI U14s lost 3-2 to Parkwydden in the Salford League Cup Final, goals from Calland and Jackson giving them the edge before a late two-goal blast won it for the Eccles side. If you want to play call Mike Wilson on 01942-514695 or Stan Walker on 01942-602172.
