PROMISING to be bigger and better than ever, the John Houghton Trust Music Festival will be held at Longton Lane Community School, Rainhill, on Friday, May 9, at 4pm and Saturday, May 10, at 9.30am.
The all-winners concert will take place in St Ann's Church, Rainhill, on the Saturday at 6.45pm, with admission being £2, children and senior citizens £1.
The festival offers five sections - secondary senior; secondary intermediate; secondary elementary; primary upper junior and primary lower junior.
In each case there are classes for piano, string, woodwind, brass and vocal soloists.
Preparations in Rainhill schools are well advanced, but any child who lives in the village may enter.
Individuals living in Rainhill but attending schools outside the area will be accepted into the festival, but private entries will not be permitted from pupils from Rainhill schools.
Adjudicators will require to hear one piece of music only. Two copies are needed, which must indicate entrant's name and class entered. Entrants must provide their accompanist and give this name on the application form.
