A PENALTY from Mark Hudspith was scant reward for Leigh RU as they crashed 35-3 at Egremont. Injuries and unavailability wrecked their hopes before they kicked a ball in anger and the final whistle came as both relief to Leigh and the Cumbrian spectators. On Saturday (3pm), in their final Courage League game of the season, Leigh are at home to Fleetwood, the match sponsored by CEF Ltd. Leigh Tofts lost 20-14 at Newton, the home side battling back from a 14-point interval deficit.

Leigh U13s won the Plate Comp in the Huddersfield Super 10s, beating Leeds 24-0 in the semis and Southport by the same score in the final. Doubles for Butler and Prescott.

In the Broughton Park competition Leigh U8s were beaten 20-15 by Manchester in the semi with three tries for Matthew Baker.

TYLDESLEY RU beat Rochdale - who have had only one league defeat since October - 28-13. MoM Dave Sivill banged over a trio of penalties before converting Hulley's touchdown. Cunliffe then sent Edge over.

Rochdale tried to edge back after the break, but Edge, Cunliffe and Manning combined for Dave Peet to touch down, Sivill converting.

CULCHETH RU lost 48-6 to Eccles with Dave Lawton MoM in a gutsy show against quality opposition.

ATHERTON RU Minis won by five tries to three at Southport, Alex Williamson notching four, Adam Howarth the fifth. Lewis Sproston had a strong game and good work from Ian Neal, Scott Fazackerley, Darren Robinson, Cory Duddle, Dean Gregory and David Donnelly.
