A BURY schoolgirl is recovering in hospital after sustaining a fractured skull in a road accident.
Kathleen Eckersley (15) of Ormrod Street was in collision with a car in a bus lane in Rochdale Road, Bury, at the junction with Pine Street on Monday, April 21.
The Vauxhall Astra was driven by Richard Whaley (24) of Littleborough.
Kathleen, who attends Broad Oak High School, was returning home when the accident happened. She lives with her mother, Janice, a sister, and a brother.
Her brother-in-law Mr Ean Gill said doctors at Booth Hall Children's Hospital, Manchester, where Kathleen is recovering, had kept her unconscious to enable them to administer medication.
He is hopeful she will be woken up today, Friday April 25. "All the signs are good. Her head injuries could have been a lot worse."
Mr Gill said brain damage could result in cases like this but Kathleen had been moving all her limbs, which was very encouraging.
