A FRIGHTENED 75-year-old Whitefield woman awoke to discover a burglar in her bedroom.

But after a struggle with the brave pensioner, the man fled the house in Whalley Road empty-handed.

Now, detectives are anxious for any information which could trap the burglar who entered the house after forcing a ground floor window.

Once inside, he went into the occupant's bedroom. When the petrified pensioner challenged the man, he demanded money.

Police say there was a brief struggle before the raider left the house without stealing anything.

The woman is said to be very shocked by her ordeal.

The man is described as being 6ft tall. He was wearing a balaclava during the incident which happened at 3am on Tuesday, April 22.

They need not give a name and could qualify for a cash reward. Police inquiries are continuing.
