POLICE are hunting two cowardly robbers who attacked a 73-year-old woman for the measly sum of £1.50.

The incident took place as the victim was making her way home along Albion Street, St Helens, at about 10.30pm on Wednesday, after visiting a local supermarket.

Without warning, the men ran up behind her and one held her arms back while the other searched through her pockets. After taking what money she had, they let go and ran off leaving the shocked pensioner on the ground. She was eventually discovered after tapping her walking stick on the ground to attract attention and was later taken to hospital where she was treated for back injuries.

Both men were white, about 22 years of age and wearing bob caps, one blue and one grey.

ANYONE who witnessed the attack or saw the men running away is asked to contact the Crime Management Unit at St Helens Police Station on 0151 777 6053 or ring the Crimestoppers hot-line on 0800 555 111.
