LEISURE chiefs are getting their skates on to try and find areas for the latest teenager sports craze.
Officers at Pendle Council have been inundated with requests from youngsters and parents for areas to practise in-line trick skating and street hockey.
But a report to go before West Craven councillors on Tuesday says there is no money available in this year's budget to pay for the facilities.
Leisure boss Phil Storey suggests that another report be made to the council's services committee to discuss whether areas should be provided, where they should be and how they could be paid for.
"The popularity of in-line skating is here for everyone to see, as was also evident with the introduction of skate-boarding and BMX cycling," says Mr Storey's report. "I have had numerous requests from youngsters and parents alike to investigate the possibility of providing such facilities throughout the borough."
The council has been told it would cost up to £19,000 to provide a flat concrete area for street hockey.
Mini ramps for tricks would cost between £11,995 and £29,850 with other trick equipment costing up to £8,000.
The report adds that at the moment skaters use anywhere they can to practise their skills.
There has already been one death in Lancashire.
