ADRIAN Heath is hot on trail of two transfer targets on the eve of tomorrow's final Division Two fxture of the season against Watford, writes TONY DEWHURST.
Burnley's faint play-off hopes expired at Notts County a week ago - and now the Turf Moor chief is busily planning a fresh strategy.
Heath admits "he has some irons in the fire" and confirmed today: "It is possible that I may make a signing next week.
"I've got a long list of players I'm very interested in bringing to Burnley. How many I can let go from the current squad will determine how many of those I can bring in over the summer.
"But I'd be really disappointed if I didn't have at least FIVE new faces in the side when we kick-off the new season on August 9."
While there is nothing tangible to play for in terms of promotion points for either Watford or Burnley - Heath insists several players are still playing for their futures.
He added: "It is a game we want to win because we want to go out on a real high note in front of our own fans who have supported us loyally all season. "It is strange really because a month ago this was the game billed as a play-off place decider and neither club has made it.
"We've definitely made progress but our bad run since Easter, which arrived just at the wrong time, has cost us dear.
"You can't afford to win one win out of seven matches and expect to go up. But we will be back stronger next August and, with the right additions to the squad, I don't think we'll be too far away next year."
Heath will not risk midfielder Nigel Gleghorn in tomorrow's clash. Gleghorn has returned to action in the reserves twice in the past week.
But he has not tasted first team combat since injuring his ligaments at Bournemouth in February.
Heath added: "We want Nigel strong and fully fit for the start of pre-season training in July. Therefore, I am unlikely to risk him from the start against Watford."
Burnley possible squad from: Beresford/Russell, Parkinson, Eyres, Brass, Hoyland, Winstanley, Harrison, Cooke, Weller, Barnes, Matthew, Huxford, Little, Smith, Vinnicombe.
Watford possible squad from: Chamberlain, Gibbs, Armstrong, Johnson, Palmer, Page, Bazeley, Mooney, Noel-Williams, Penrice, Easton, Phillips, Flash, Andrews.
