FEARS for the safety of a 13-year-old runaway have been expressed by his family and police at Burnley.

Adrian John Preston left home without food, money or adequate clothing on Saturday and is believed to have spent the last three nights camping in a tent.

His 15-year-old sister, Lois, who left with him returned home to Colbran Street, Burnley, the next day.

The youngsters, and their dog, had spent Saturday night camping on land off Colne Road , Burnley.

Adrian attends a special school at Kirkby Lonsdale and should have returned there today after a weekend break.

Sgt John Fryer said: "We believe he is camping out in his tent and at that age it is possible he could come to some harm.

"With the bad weather and more forecast we are concerned for his safety.'' Police have appealed for anyone who sees Adrian or his tent to contact Burnley police on 01282-425001.

Adrian is described as 5ft 2ins tall with a pale complexion, blue eyes and short, blond hair.

He is slim and at the time he went missing he was wearing a red, black and blue Mizuru sweatshirt, black jeans and Adidas trainers.

He took with him a brown sleeping bag and a dark green army-style tent.

His mum , Carol, has appealed for Adrian to come home.

She said: "We are very concerned and want him back. We were told he had been seen in the Padiham area.

"His dad has been out to look. There were signs of someone camping but there was no-one there.''
