CLEAN-air campaigners are playing the "conscience card" as the Cemfuel controversy drags on.
Residents opposed to Castle Cement burning waste chemicals at their Clitheroe plant are asking the firms supplying waste to think again.
The protesters, of course, have a single issue in mind - the perceived threat to their health from Castle Cement's emissions.
But it is possible that they and the firms they are now targeting are doing everyone an environmental favour in safely getting rid of waste that could be hazardous or pollutant if left unburned.
The trouble is we do not know. That's the whole problem with the Cemfuel controversy - no official judgment has yet been given on whether it is safe or not.
After all these years of uncertainty and fear, it is high time we had a credible answer.
