TELEVISION star Jane Horrocks, from Rossendale, has given birth to a bouncing baby boy and proud grandad John declared: "He's great!"

John and his wife Barbara travelled to London to be with Jane and her scriptwriter boyfriend Nick Vivian.

The actress, famous for her portrayal as dizzy secretary Bubble in the top BBC comedy Absolutely Fabulous, gave birth to the healthy 7lb 2oz boy and within 24 hours she was back home. Jane and Nick have still to agree on a name.

"They have considered quite a few, but they can't settle on one." said John, of Lee Brook Close, Rawtenstall.

"Both Jane and the baby are doing very well and we are delighted."

John and Barbara have two sons Clyde and Allister and are already grandparents to Allister's seven year old daughter Elizabeth.

John said he was not sure whether Jane and Nick had plans to marry but said he was looking forward to her coming up to Rossendale with the baby.

The busy actress, who won accolades for her hilarious one woman show Never Mind the Horrocks, which saw her mimicking various stars including Shirley Bassey, Marlene Dietrich and the entire cast of soap Eastenders.

She is scheduled to begin work on two films, one for the cinema and the other for TV, later in the year.
