THE Princess Royal was given a taste of life behind bars on Monday as she met staff and inmates at Lancaster Farms prison. As patron of the Butler Trust, Princess Anne was at the young offenders institute to see first hand the successful work which goes into rehabilitating prisoners. After meeting the prison governor and 50 staff she chatted with some of the young offenders and learnt about the prison's anti-bullying scheme.
"She asked everyone she spoke to a question and certainly made an impression," said Deputy Governor Paul Parfitt. "She encouraged all she spoke to and when she'd gone there was a definite buzz around the place. She had a considerable knowledge of the prison service and, although we get lots of visitors from around the world to see the work we do, this was certainly the best visit we've had."
