LEIGH RU ended the season with optimism for 1997/98.
A 43-25 victory against Fleetwood earned them fourth spot, a deserved effort for a team showing a healthy mixture of experience and young blood.
Tries by Jim Bridge 2, Barry Yates 2, Ross Bullough and Alan Higson, with three conversions by Mark Hudspith, gave them a comfortable 26-10 interval lead.
Four substitutions at the break disrupted the rhythm and the visitors closed in.
Skipper Chris Whittle steadied the ship, however, sending Bullough in for his second TD, Hudspith again on target.
The U13s beat Fleetwood 64-12 with tries by Prescott 2 (plus seven conversions), Sawyle, Wingrove, Flannery, Peters 2, Slinn 2.
ATHERTON RU scored a resounding 50-12 win against Toc H in their final game of the season. Tries for Ben Sutton 5, Ian O'Donnell 2 and Gary Bleakley, who also hit five conversions.
