ATHERTON LR gave a typically spirited display - but it still ended in a 4-2 defeat at Bradford Park Avenue.
Manager Dave Morris was philosophical. "We did as well as we could do under the circumstances and that's been the story of the whole season," he said.
"Some of the younger lads we brought in did well, but you can't hope to go into a tough away game with so many quality players missing and expect to get much out of it."
Neil Moss banged in his third goal in four games and Paul Griffin struck home a superb 35-yard volley.
HINDLEY GREEN strolled to a 7-0 victory against Bolton Lads Club in the Bolton Combination Premier Division Cup Final.
They were always in control as they dashed to a 4-0 half time lead through Steve Rudd (5), Jimmy Scouler (6, 30) and Martin Kearsley (36).
Second half goals came from Ray Sargeant (51), Andy Rodden (70) and Kearsley (75).
