I WAS greatly surprised to see that three of Leigh's town councillors have finally taken upon themselves to do something about the state of the toilets in Leigh (last week's Journal).
I have been a long campaigner to get clean toilet facilities in the town and consulted with all the local councillors as a member of the Civic Trust, to be met with the same reply "no money!".
The toilets were the first thing to be axed from their budget with total disregard for the people of Leigh. I said in one of my letters that Wigan Council must think the people of Leigh are alien beings with no bodily functions!
I have found suitable sites close to the car park and market where toilets could be situated but nothing has been done. But now the elections are coming up and eureka! The penny has dropped, and top of the list is better toilet facilities. I'll believe it when I see it.
