MRS Margaret Greenall has been appointed to the board of the St Helens & Knowsley Community Health (NHS) Trust as a non-executive director.
Mrs Greenall is the Hospital Director of the Fairfield Independent Hospital at Crank, and is also a director of the St Helens & Knowsley Hospice and the St Helens Cancer Counselling Service.
Her long association with the health service began when she joined St Helens Hospital as a trainee nurse in 1955. She stayed at the hospital for some 20 years, working as a ward sister before becoming Nurse Manager.
In 1975 Mrs Greenall became matron at Fairfield, which was then a private nursing home. Five years later Fairfield became a private acute hospital, and Mrs Greenall remained Matron until being appointed as Hospital Director in 1986.
Mrs Greenall, who lives in Clock Face, has closely followed the progress of the Trust since it was first formed in 1992.
She said: "I have always been very interested in the work carried out in the community. The Trust has an excellent reputation for the quality of its services and I am very pleased that I will be able to play my part on the Trust board."
Mrs Greenall is not involved in any political activity, holds no other public appointments and will receive a remuneration of £5,000 per year as a non-executive director. That income will go into the funds of the Fairfield Independent Hospital, which is a registered charity.
