WALSHAW High School, Burnley, has a "souper'' chef in year nine student Amina Latif.
Already Amina has won a cooker for the school's teaching kitchen by reaching the semi-finals of a national competition.
If she gets to the final and wins, there will be nine more Creda cookers for the school, a trophy and £1000 worth of Creda appliances for her home.
And she can put it all down to the humble lentil.
Her special recipe for lentil soup was one of five submitted by Walshaw pupils.
The creative cooking challenge was taken up by 400 secondary schools across the country and Amina is one of 40 students taking part in the semi finals this weekend at the Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies.
Each student will be given an hour to prepare, cook and present their soup for testing by a panel of judges.
To get through so far Amina had to submit a design file including the soup recipe, initial research ideas, costings, evaluation and photograph of the finished soup.
