WOOLWORTHS in Earlestown will be taking a memorable trip back in time when they celebrate their 40th year of business this month.
And staff at the branch in Market Street, are eager to hear reminiscent tales from nostalgia buffs who remember the 'good old days' when customers were treated to the personal service.
Perhaps you bought something back in the days when things were made to last, that is still in use today; or maybe you just remember the tempting open displays of family favourites such as cherry lips, jazz drops and pineapple chunks or the enticing toiletry counter were pots of rouge, false nails and a dab of 'Evening in Paris' perfume were on offer.
When Woolworths first opened the shop in Earlestown in 1957, everything was ordered by handwritten letter and delivered daily on open-backed lorries.
Willing staff were also on hand to personally cut electric cable by the yard, test lightbulbs and batteries, or offer helpful advice to needy customers.
Although the store has inevitably moved on with the times, the staff still try to offer the personal touch with their VIP programme.
A mystery shopper gives marks for service to the customer and in 1996 the store was awarded with a bronze and silver award. Staff are aiming to strike gold this year.
To celebrate the store's birthday milestone, a fun day was held on Wednesday, April 23, when staff welcomed customers old and new with free giveaways including, sweets, chocolates, T-shirts and videos.
