THE OFSTED report on Haydock High School describes it as "an established, friendly and effectively-managed school."
Clear vision, firm and committed leadership and drive by the head teacher have successfully brought about a number of significant changes, the report adds.
The motto of the school, 'Caring and Achieving' is effectively underpinned and amplified by an extensive range of aims and expectations which embraces academic, social and personal development.
On pupils' behaviour the report says they show pride in their work and make sound progress. Behaviour is good and pupils support and show concern for others. The level of unauthorised absence is below the national average.
Ofsted says the quality of teaching enables pupils in all age groups to make solid progress while parents are encouraged to visit the school; and the majority find the school easy to approach, confirming the success of the open-door policy.
On achievement, the report points out that five or more GCSE passes (A-C) are improving annually to a greater degree than nationally; that five or more of GCSE passes (A-G) are above national average and that the 100 per cent pass rate in vocational qualifications is above national average.
Head teacher Mrs Johnstone, says she is delighted with the Ofsted Report. "It recognises the high quality of teaching within the school, the positive attitude of pupils and excellent support of governors and parents. We have all worked hard to live up to our motto, 'Caring and Achieving.'"
