A FOOTBALL club chairman has blasted an anonymous critic who attacked him in letters to the local media.

Ken Broom, chairman of Nelson FC, who suffered a record 15-2 defeat against Tetley Walker in the North West Counties League, said the phantom letter-writer had struck again.

"Last year someone who remained anonymous, like they do, started sending letters to the local radio and newspapers criticising me and the way I ran the club," said Mr Broom.

"Now it has started again. These people are quite happy to criticise someone who has put in a lot of hard work for the club but you never see them offering to give a hand with things. "I've brought Nelson forward 20 years in the last two years.

"I've had to introduce things that should have been done before and because I've enforced them in this person's eyes, I'm the bad boy.

"Health and safety regulations have been enforced and we're making everyone pay to come in now whereas before some people have got in for free.

"It's policy that everyone pays, including me and my family, but some people perhaps don't like it.

"I've paid full price for a season ticket. The rules are the same for everyone."

The club has invested a lot of time and money in improving facilities at its Victoria Park ground and plans for further work are in the pipeline.

It has just applied to Pendle Council for permission to build a shelter for spectators.
