Lancaster City 1 Buxton 0
RELEGATED Buxton were brushed aside by City on Tuesday night to avenge their worst defeat of the season.
Lancaster dominated the match and the few attacks that Buxton made were all coolly dealt with by keeper Mark Thornley. Buxton's goalie Jim O'Donnell also played a blinder to keep the deficit to just one goal.
In the third minute, Robbie Armstrong's long ball caused a stir in the defence. Dobie passed to Diggle who threaded the ball to captain Steve Trainor. He slotted the ball into the top corner, leaving O'Donnell stranded.
Then O'Donnell started to show the form that made him man-of-the-match. Several early shots from Lodge, Diggle, Flannery, Phillips and Trainor were all well saved.
Dobie came close to making it 2-0 when Jimmy Graham's through ball left him one-on-one with the keeper. However, O'Donnell spread himself well and made it impossible to score.
Jay Flannery tried a spectacular overhead kick from Dobie's cross but he couldn't quite get the right connection.
The second half was scrappy and dull with few chances. A Stuart Diggle shot flew just over the bar but the best efort came in the 90th minute. A clumsy tackle on the edge of the box gave City a free kick in a dangerous position. The keeper parried the low shot and when Diggle chipped in a cross Armstrong headed onto the crossbar.
Lancaster's last game of the season is on Saturday, May 3, when they take on Colwyn Bay at the Giant Axe.
Team: Thornley, Phillips, Flannery, Armstrong, Jones, Hartley, Trainor (c), Lodge, Diggle, Dobie, Graham.
