PRESTWICH golf ace Gillian Nutter is Queen of the county set. The 19-year-old who lives on Hilton Lane and learned her golf just a nine iron away, on Prestwich Golf Course, has been crowned Lancashire champion for the third time in four years.
Her latest title came last Thursday (April 24) at St Annes Old Links but she had to produce one of her best ever shots to clinch victory over Clitheroe's Kim Rostron.
After an epic battle, the pair were all-square on the 18th tee and Nutter sealed the silverware with a glorious five-wood second to the par five finishing hole. It came to rest within four yards of the cup and she duly holed for an eagle.
Playing off plus one and out of Formby Ladies GC, Nutter had previously won the Lancashire county title in 1994 and 1995 at Stand and Ormskirk.
Victory made amends for Gillian's disappointment in Paris earlier this year when her England ambitions took a knock because of a hand injury which has only just cleared up.
Former Prestwich professional Andrew Sproston has won the title of Manchester Golfer of the Year.
