NOW that the dust has settled on the General Election, it is worth looking at the biggest upset of the county contest - for us in Pendle. County Coun Tim Ormrod now sits for the Colne division where Lib-Dem Tony Greaves had sat for 24 years.
This battle was won for Labour by solid teamwork. Tim's wife, Dorothy, selflessly concentrated her team's efforts in Colne on this seat, not the one she was fighting.
In Barrowford, we had a huge team of leaflet deliverers who reached virtually every address in the village at least three times. We canvassed night after night, right up until polling day eve. But, above all, it was the ordinary foot-soldiers of the Barrowford Labour Party who gave up their time and their energy, day in day out, and who, with their comrades from Colne, deserve the credit for this victory.
COUN ROGER ABBISS, (Secretary, Barrowford Labour Party), Laund Farm, Wheatley Lane Road, Barrowford, Nelson.
