PRIME Minister Margaret Thatcher was accused of turning into a dictator after saying she wanted to rule until the turn of the century.
Tory party insiders claimed she was inviting rejection at the forthcoming General Election from voters reluctant to see one person in power.
Liberal leader David Steel tried to exploit Mrs Thatcher's statement that she hoped "to go on and on" by claiming that many people would throw up their arms at the prospect.
