A GROUP of youngsters say they aim to stamp out racism in their area following months of gang battles between whites and Asians.

The Young Citizens Association staged a protest against racism on Wimberley council estate in Blackburn.

Young people met at the seating area of Aberdare Close and erected posters and mailed leaflets to houses on the council estate with the message "Kick out Racism."

The leaflets have a contact number for the anti-racism team at Blackburn with Darwen Council which people can call for help.

Jason Walker, chairman of YCA, said: "There is a gang fight once every two months on the estate. They are not big things but are still happening.

"It is a clash of cultures and a lack of communication between Asians and whites. We want to change this."

He added: "The estate is 80 per cent Asian and we organise events for them but not as many people turn out as we would like because of this racism problem.

"I think we can stamp it out with the help of Blackburn with Darwen Council.
