CLOG dancers may soon be swapping the streets of Lancashire for a Disney date in Florida - if they can just learn to smile!

The St Mary's troop at Oswaldtwistle - known as Ossie Cloggers - will soon shoot a video to send to Disney World officials to get permission to perform at the attraction next Easter.

But their leader Theresa Hindle says that when practising the routines the dancers - who are used to performing with straight faces as cloggers should - didn't remember to smile.

"Everyone has to smile at Disney World, or they won't let them in," Theresa joked.

"Their footwork is excellent and we are getting one or two glimmers of smiles now, but they still need work."

She added: "If we are successful we will be dancing in an area of Disney World to suit our particular style. "We may be dancing at the Epcot Centre where I'm told there is an English section with a Rose and Crown Pub."

The cloggers are now raising money for their trip to Orlando and have already secured performing dates in shopping malls and a hotel in the region.

They hope dancing in Disney World will be the highlight of the tour.

The trip was organised by staff at the Travellers Cheque-In, Oswaldtwistle, who helped to find dancing venues for the 14 girls and one boy who will be performing.

This is just the latest in a list of countries visited by the Ossy Cloggers, who have danced in front of the Pope and in Sweden and Germany.

On Sunday May 25, parents of the performers are holding a sponsored 33 mile walk from Lytham to Oswaldtwistle Mills, setting off around 4am, to raise funds for the trip.

Theresa said: "The dancers are all really keen and working very hard.

"These children go all round the country giving their time and services, and this trip will be a real treat."
