PUPILS in a Blackburn school will become crafty as they attempt to learn new skills.
At the start of next month, Feniscowles Primary School is holding its first ever Arts Week with the hope pupils will get the chance to learn new skills and maybe even start a new hobby!
Displays on show range from the sublime - a drama workshop - to the ridiculous - a chance to make finger puppets and learn how Punch and Judy works!
For acting headteacher Elizabeth Hargeaves the fact the week goes ahead at all is a triumph.
She said: "The whole event is costing over £2,000 to run. We had hoped for a National Lottery grant but it was turned down.
"Fortunatley, our PTA has been able to put £1,000 towards the event, which we feel will be very beneficial to our pupils.
"It is something we won't be able to do very often but we think it is important for the children to see different arts and experience them for themselves and touch new skills they never knew they had."
Specialist sessions have been arranged for the school over the week, which is so crammed full of unusual arty lessons that some have spilled over into the week before!
Lessons include pottery, stage make-up, theatre workshops as well as representative from the local media coming in to talk about writing.
Budding musicians will be given the chance to discover their hidden talent when members of local brass bands come in to talk, and closet dancers will have the chance to strut their stuff when ballet and country dancers take to the floor.
Elizabeth added: "It should be a wonderful success and I am sure all the pupils will enjoy it."
