BARNOLDSWICK sneaked through to the second round of the Vaux Ramsbottom Cup with a six-run victory over Oswaldtwistle Immanuel last night.
Bowler Andy Hornsby must have thought he had done enough when he helped dismiss the Victory Park side for 137 on Saturday, but his holiday to the Lake District proved very expensive as Immanuel faced the run chase with 10 batsmen and saw their last wicket fall on 131 with just over two overs left.
Martin Hayes top-scored for Oswaldtwistle with 36 while David Scothern was the pick of the Barnoldswick bowlers, taking three wickets for nine runs in his 10-over spell.
Professional Chris Killen rattled up 60 and Alan Dickenson was 46 not out as Great Harwood defeated Read who had earlier set a target of 147-8.
Scores: Oswaldtwistle 131-9, Barnoldswick 137; Great Harwood 153-7, Read 147-8.
The second round takes place on Sunday, June 1. Draw: Cherry Tree (bye); Baxenden v Edenfield; Barnoldswick v Gt Harwood; Ribblesdale Wanderers v Whalley.
