GLAZEBURY CC's first season in the North West Counties League began with a hard-earned draw at Widnes Recs.
The side reached a massive 198-6 before the declaration with Mike Roberts the most effective bowler on 3-57.
After tea it quickly became evident that a draw was the best Glazebury could hope for as the wickets tumbled and Widnes increased the pressure.
Opener Graham Harrop and No 5 batsman Simon Green kept pace with each other to share top scores on 28 as Glazebury settled at 139-7.
Glazebury 2nd were left hanging on for a draw after bowling well to restrict Widnes Recs to 153-7.
Stuart Caller (3-61) and Graham Greensmith (2-34) were the best of the bowling attack.
In reply Glazebury began well with skipper Roger Davenport hitting 22 and Greensmith 24 to keep up with the run rate.
But a mid-order collapse left the side in tatters and they shut up shop to grimly hang on at 95-8.
