ADRIAN Heath has got the green light to play the summer transfer market.
But how much the Turf Moor board of directors have given the Clarets chief to spend on new blood remains a closely guarded secret.
Heath signalled today he is ready to make his first signing, possibly early next week, with Republic of Ireland defender Paul McGrath and Doncaster Rovers pair Darren Moore and Dean Williams all linked with the Clarets in the past 48 hours.
Heath said: "It would not be right of me to say how much I've got to spend but I've got enough finance to operate in the transfer market. "I am confident and hopeful we can bring in the quality we want to strengthen the squad with the money at my disposal.
"I've spoken again to a player from a Premiership club and I'm due to speak with his agent before the weekend.
"I don't want to expand on who that player is because I know there are a couple of clubs interested in signing him.
"If they were aware that we wanted to sign him then that might force their hand to act a bit quicker and I don't want to run that risk.
"Hopefully we will be a bit further down the line in the early part of next week. "Once I get one player in I think that will set the ball rolling for more signings to come through the door."
Heath insists he wants a minimum of four players added to his squad before Burnley leave for their pre-season tour to Scotland or Ireland on July 18 - and a goalkeeper remains a priority.
The release of reserve team 'keeper Wayne Russell means Heath needs cover for first choice Marlon Beresford.
Heath added: "We will probably be bringing in a couple of goalkeepers and I've spoken to several.
"We need an experienced head to challenge Marlon and a really promising youngster.
"That is going to be an important area for us and I want to strengthen through the whole side."
